It makes me sad to see that what was meant to be a peaceful protest around the US turned into chaos. Some people protested with the right intentions, while others didn’t. Some wanted their voice to be heard in order to bring justice, while others went into the protest with the intent to kill, steal, and destroy. My heart is saddened. I am worried about the cops, the innocent people, the burned places, and the homes that will now be smelling like smoke for days. Imagine being the wife of a cop during these times. The fear and the questioning of, “Will he come home tonight?” Please say a prayer for these situations that are so hurtful.
As I watched angry protestors saying, “F**k the police.” I thought to myself, this is total disrespect for a cop who might be a good cop. Why demoralize all cops who are trying to protect and serve. I am not going to ignore the fact that people are hurting. Some are, and they do not know how to express their emotions, and for that, this may be their reason for burning down places and stealing. But does it justify their actions?
In all of this, many wonder where God is, and is He truly just?
God doesn’t need me to defend Him. Trust me, He doesn’t, and I felt Him say that as I wrote this. But I want to share from a place of giving a perspective maybe you have not thought about. As someone who has had a tough life, I could go out looking for justice on my own, but the justice I would get is nothing compared to the justice the creator of heaven and earth has already given me. My life is a complete redemption because I chose to trust Him with the outcome of justice. A few days ago, while reading my bible, I came across this which I have been thinking about for a few days:
Ezekiel 18:25-32 “Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Hear, you Israelites: Is my way unjust? Is it not your ways that are unjust? 26 If a righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits sin, they will die for it; because of the sin they have committed, they will die. 27 But if a wicked person turns away from the wickedness they have committed and does what is just and right, they will save their life.28 Because they consider all the offenses they have committed and turn away from them, that person will surely live; they will not die. 29 Yet the Israelites say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Are my ways unjust, people of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unjust?
30 “Therefore, you Israelites, I will judge each of you according to your own ways, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall. 31 Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, people of Israel? 32 For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live!
May our world come to repentance and seek the only God who is truly just and merciful.
